A lot of people thought it was going to be Britney Spears making a surprise appearance at the 2008 American Music Awards, but much to Britney fans’ disappointment, it was Justin Timberlake. The “Sexyback” singer presented Annie Lennox with the Award of Merit, after which she received a standing ovation for a moving rendition of her hit “Why” on the piano. Justin was honored to be there to present Lennox with the award and revealed that he is a big fan.
“The award of merit is being given tonight to an artist who means a lot to me personally.” l love that she’s always been on the cutting edge of fashion, she’s always looked so cool and taught us how to look cool. Then there’s her humanitarian work. She’s been an activist for just causes all over the world.”
