After spending the last few days in Cannes, promoting her new movie project Major Movie Star, Jessica Simpson is now back in America, specifically New York City, and it seems she and John Mayer have already reconciled:

A guest who spotted Mayer leaving Simpson’s suite at the Soho Grand tells In Touch Weekly magazine, “He was looking really happy. He couldn’t stop smiling.”

But a Simpson pal insists the couple has got some way to go before they start thinking about a long-term future together: “They definitely went on a date last night. She still loves him… but he’s scared of commitment. He breaks up with her and then regrets it and then begs her to get back together.”

That sounds real mature, what a good thing they’ve got going on there.
