Jessica Donates Van to Orphanage

Jessica Simpson was in a giving mood Sunday when she donated a brand new minivan to the Mexican orphanage she supports, People has learned.

The pop star, 26, drew cheers when she drove through the gates of the Casa Hogar Elim orphanage in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, in a white 2007 Chrysler Town & Country and handed the keys to Mama Lupita, who runs the home.

“The kids were cheering when she pulled up,” Simpson’s rep tells PEOPLE. “They surrounded the car and were so excited to see her. They kept saying, ‘Muchas gracias! Muchas gracias!’ A few of them spoke English and said, ‘We love you, Jessica!’ ”

Mama Lupita, who speaks little English, was the first to give Simpson a big hug.

“I’m so honored and happy to be able to help,” said Simpson, who hugged Mama Lupita and the throng of kids who had waited anxiously to see her and presented her with gifts, including an engraved plaque with a photo of the kids and a beaded necklace they’d made for her.

Simpson laughed when a mariachi band burst onto the scene to serenade her (the kids had saved up to hire the group by selling jewelry they crafted themselves).

“What an amazing surprise!” Simpson said, putting her hand on her heart.

Jessica Simpson is a sweet girl, who is most of the time in a good and friendly mood (in public anyway). She has had her fair share of paparazzi madness, and she has been cool about it. Once she was headed into a supermarket when the paparazzi went bananas and just would not leave her alone, so what did she do? Give them the finger? No! She said “Alright you guys, if I pose for a few pictures, will you leave me alone?”, and they said yes, so she posed with a smile on her face, and they left. Simple as that! If you respect them, they respect you.

This time however, Jessica was in a pretty bad mood when she left a sushi restaurant on Wednesday afternoon. The paparazzi were, of course, all in her face, and against her car (hey, those things scratch easily) when Jessica finally had enough and said “Please you guys, please, please back off!” (See, even when she is pissed she is polite and says “please”). Once in her car, Jessica said “I’m trying to respect you guys, but this is just rude”.

So that’s what ya get from a moody Jessica Simpson, pretty nice ain’t it? Most celebrities tell the paps to “f**k off”. A certain bald celebrity even said “go f**k yourself”.

John Mayer and Jessica Simpson are back in LA from their romantic holiday in Rome, Italy. The pair shared some lunch at The Ivy on the Shore in Santa Monica on Wednesday afternoon. Jessica looked cute and casual in a grey hoodie, and a flat cap, while John too went casual in jeans. They are an odd couple, but I am getting more and more use to them being together. I’m just surprised John went for someone like Jessica.

John Mayer, who recently finished his latest tour, and new girlfriend Jessica Simpson, take a stroll down the streets of Rome, Italy. The pair held hands, despite being followed by the paparazzi, so I guess they are definitely together and not afraid to show it — good for them!

The last time Miss Simpson was in Italy was when her then husband, Nick Lachey, took her there for a romantic vacation, which turned out to be where they finally realized they needed a divorce — sounds like a fun vacation. Lets hope this one is a little better!

Jessica Simpson donated some Hollywood swag to a Mexican orphanage, a new Chrysler Town & Country van she won during the MTV Video Music Awards.

Simpson originally won a sportier Crossfire, Chrysler said, but asked for the van to get more mileage for the orphanage, E! News reported Friday.

The van is expected to be delivered next month.

It’s not the first good deed Simpson has done for the Casa Hogar Elim orphanage in Nuevo Laredo, publicist Cindi Berger told E! News.

Simpson first visited the orphanage when she was 11 as part of a Texas church group. She has been donating time and money to Casa Hogar Elim for years, Berger said.

Simpson has already kicked off her next donating initiative for the orphanage, auctioning on eBay the red dress she wore in her Super Bowl commercial for Pizza Hut.
